I don't mind if an installer provides a folder of installers with info about the programs, so I can decide later if I want any of them. I would never have agreed to let one program automatically install another one anyway. They can't test every configuration, so need a contingency plan. It makes me reluctant to recommend any program that installs other programs without permission, so it's important that such bundled offers work the way the developers intended. They really need to put the information (with all offers listed and how to uninstall) in a safer place to avoid such problems. There was no offer screen!!! I read through the license twice and didn't see anything there either. That's why they need to pay attention when users report such things rather than assuming we just missed something obvious. Most likely there is some incompatibility with my system that the developers didn't notice. This was on a mac mini late 2012 model (Intel core i5) running Sierra 10.12.5. And I do read anything in front of me (compulsive reader). I was watching the whole process both times. I even started up the installer again to check. Still, if you want a slim, sturdy keyboard that blends into your desk setup and looks as classy as your Mac, this is the one to get.No, there was definitely no impossible-to-miss screen with the iDoctor offer or any offer when I installed. That's a lot given the keyboard's overall features and a mechanical keyboard market that seemingly exploded during the pandemic. High-quality keyboards aren't cheap, though: The MacTigr is $219, which converts to approximately £180 or AU$310. Overall, the Das Keyboard MacTigr looks, feels and sounds great and gives professionals on Macs a truly enjoyable typing experience. Even then, the company used a bolder font for better visibility in low light. Still, none of these are real dealbreakers, with the exception of maybe the backlit keys. Also, I use a custom coiled USB-C cable with my other keyboards so losing this little bit of extra flexibility is disappointing. For storage and travel, however, a fixed cable is less desirable than a removable one. Das Keyboard did this to make it more reliable for professionals. One last thing: The cable is fixed to the back of the keyboard instead of removable. Also, although the MacTigr has standard Mac Command and Option keys as well as the aforementioned media keys and a sleep button, Das Keyboard didn't map the three remaining shortcuts to the function keys that you'd find on a Mac or MacBook keyboard. The keyboard can be used with Karabiner-Elements, free open-source mapping software for MacOS. Similarly, there is no software from Das Keyboard to remap keys or create macros - a staple of gaming mechanical keyboards. Especially when you consider the whole world of gaming keyboards. But wired keyboards, including other models from Das Keyboard, regularly have backlit keys. I'm used to seeing this on wireless models because it can really ding battery life. There is, however, a short list of things that might turn you off of the MacTigr in favor of something like Logitech's MX Mechanical. It sits alongside a row of discrete media controls and a sleep button that can quickly lock your Mac or MacBook when you walk away. It has a soft texture to it but also an oddly satisfying click. When the keyboard's connected, the ports can be used for charging devices like a phone or tablet or data transfers at speeds up to 5Gbps.Īlso, and I know this is going to sound silly, but the MacTigr has one of the best volume knobs I've ever come across. Next to the attached USB-C cable on the back are two USB-C ports. But one of the best reasons to consider the MacTigr doesn't have anything to do with the typing experience.
